99 Days before new year — Thoughts
New year is not so special. I said what i said. You don’t have to wait until January 1st to start over your life. Also, your life is not totally fail if you meet another new year with unfullfilled resolutions. Now my question is “How to track the life progress with accountability and honesty?”
Why would i bold those two words : accountability and honesty? Well sometimes, i find myself trapped in false-belief about my own progress. For example, i hyperfixate the “self-appreciation” til the point where i didn’t pushed beyond my comfort zone. The other days, i drowned myself in “self-critique” until i couldn’t see clearly the roads i’ve been through.
“How to appreciate the small wins and still push ourself to reach our maximum potential?”
- Keep a journal
To write down your big goals and break them into small tasks you can achieve everyday is a habit you should have in order to make yourself aware about your progress. - Make your goal measurable
It’s not enough to say “I want to finish my thesis this year”. It’s better to say “Read 5 previous researh daily” or “Finish the abstrack in 3 days”. Without measerable goal, we often confuse and lost track of our progress. - Review your achievement
Is there a room for improvement? Have I done enough for my goals? Or Is it already reach my maximum capacity? Take sometimes to review your goals daily, weekly or monthly. Without reviewing the progress, you will either loose the spark of reaching the goals you want to reach or forget the milestones you’ve reached. - Do it in “Stoic” way
One of stoic principle is : dichotomy of control. We need to separate what aspects are under our control and what aspects are beyond our control. With that way, we can maximaze the things we could do to pursue our dream and let go the rest. For example, you want to be a writer. The things that under your control are write regularly, join writer community, publish your writing. The things that you don’t need to think about are whether your writing will be liked by people, or whether there’s a publisher want to publish your work. Dichotomy of control teach me to focus on the thing i can do and let go peacefully of the rest.
99 days before new year, i hope we all getting near to the future self we aim to be. May we all make the most with this 99 days.
